This has been an amazing weekend, which I will be sharing in a few posts this week. But for now, video from Marc Oxborrow’s <del datetime="2010-10-04T18:25:47+00:00">session with his</del> band The Haymarket Squares. His session was about connections between being a musician and being a designer, this song was illustrating having a point of view in your work. this was a common theme among speakers.
More reflection to come in the next week. Thank you, #phxdw.

PS. the video wouldn’t upload from my phone, and its pretty low quality anyway. This video is better.

I grew up in Osseo, Minnesota. About as suburban as you get.
My junior high friends and I were always turning in unusual projects in class. So, Earth sciences, eighth grade, we had to present a topic relating to sustainability. This was before people used that word, but my friends and I decided to talk about composting.
And then we decided to write a rap about composting.
And then we decided to make a music video of the rap.

About composting.
This video included a choreographed dance with rakes. This video included me dressed in United Colors of Benneton-esque sweater with a red beret (yes, Prince reference intended.) This video I believe is lost to the black hole of time, as far as I know. Unless Shawn J., Angie V., Andrew L. or Paul J. are out there with a copy. If so, I’d love to see it.
But I still remember the rap. I discovered this again recently when I was at a dinner party. And the subject of composting came up. Quite a good dinner party.
Without further ado, a rap about compost:

compost rap from Nina on Vimeo.
I was RAZZberry, for those that are wondering. That’s my street name in Osseo.

Ken and I have a little christmas cold that I apparently brought home from somewhere, but so far it’s a happy day. Our car has been replaced with a shiny orange one, and we had Crab and Mollusk chowder last night, my first attempt at chowder. We also had some champagne and cherry pastels, they are called. Happy tradition that I decided we would have.

Last year I recorded a piece of my family history for my grandmother and mailed it to her for Christmas. I’ve posted it here for you to listen to. It is a story of my great grandmother, based on her memory of a childhood Christmas. It’s a biggish file, so be warned. Listen here.

Also, I came to my blog after a little time, and I had 455 pieces of Spam in my comment box, so now I’ve limited commenting, which isn’t so common, to registered users again. As much as I love Mariah Carey porn, cialis, viagra and cheapheandbags, it has grown a bit tiresome. But I would love my friends and family to register, and any genuine human that is reading this and would like to particpate in a conversation, not selling watches in their coats, to please register and comment away.
I have a beautiful week off, I plan to clean and craft and smile alot. I hope you do the same. Merry Christmas.

I feel great. I love playing the ukulele. We were warmly received and we tore up the ending like real rock stars. If you can’t end big, end red, as Cameo put it.
You can listen to a previous recording* of the song Cameo wrote for Dr. Glick. He has been the provost for 15 years here, and he is now moving to Reno NV to be the UNR president. He’s a leader with a great sense of fun. We’ve been pretty lucky.

*I, unfortunately or fortunately, am not playing on this recording, just singing. This was recorded P.U.K. or “Pre-Ukulele-Knowledge”. DWA.
